I normally shit on fanfics, but I was rereading some Transformers lore a few years ago for a nostalgia trip and it was so bad that I have since written several treatments of how I would remake the setting and characters to not be hot dogshit.

Tips on making a Saturday morning cartoon Transformers style robot a compelling character? The story I have in mind would see him thrust into a more morally complicated world than what he's used to. So far all I can think of is having him struggle to understand conflicts between more than two factions. Most of the other stuff is just a rehash of "Classical myth hero encounters gritty real world problems" but with a slight tint of 80s commercialism
