I don't have a specific work in mind OP, but I'm always unnerved when I read about the atrocities men commit unto other men. Real accounts of week long tortures, flayings, rapes, forcing their children to watch, and etc. It reminds me that the modern notion of killing swiftly and not fucking around with corpses is indeed modern.

School got me more into reading, at least Shakespeare did. The only books I hated were set in modern times and were about teenagers dealing with teenage bullshit. I do miss slowly deconstructing a book chapter by chapter with a group.

e-readers are based for fiction when you can download a fuckload of books for free and read everything and determine what you enjoyed or not. They're awful for any sort of book where you need to flip around to reference material like textbooks. Either way if you like a book enough you're better off with the physical, but owning both is good.
