How do you write about depression without sounding cringy or too edgy? Any good example books? Even felt down all the time, i can't come with good depression stories or i can't find them depressive enough

>Read La Bas
>Comfy setting and strong, sentimental friendships
>Wish I could have lived in that time period
>Narrator finds his own time period decadent and shitty
>Realize I would be disappointed regardless whether I lived then or now

What's the best time period to have lived in, /lit/?
Also does decadent literature lament or revel in decadence?
