On a slightly related note; I'm reading Paradise Lost right now and it's really quite excellent. The extensive footnotes at the bottom of each page is a great help; I wouldn't have had any idea who or what half the figures and locations were.

Though I do think the title of Milton's scrapped tragedy was more amusing in a modern context; Adam Unparadiz'd

So why did he wait to tell Milton all the details about Satan and Adam and Eve? I mean Paradise Lost is essentially part of the Christian cannon at this point. Why not just put it in the first edition?
