After a long time of creative despair and unfruitful plotting I bought a notebook and a pen and the first chapter flew like the wind through the pages.

What is the aesthetic value of literature? Why do people resonate towards some forms of writing and turn their nose at others? Is it personal preference? Or can the value of a work be determined objectively? And if so, how is that value determined? Style? Diction? Meter? What makes good writing /lit/?
