I would advise against it, especially since you're new to reading. Read other, lighter, stuff first. A lot of people here suffer from PBS(Post Bakker Syndrome). Meaning that once you've read him, it will be hard to find other authors in fantasy as good as he is.

Having that said, he is quite literally the most beloved writer in this general, and has been for over a decade, regardless of what newfags tell you. And he is, in my humble opinion, the greatest living writer in fantasy right now.

If you enjoy dark fantasy series with intense battles, pitch black lore, highly intellectual themes that dovetail into real world philosophy, poignant character psychology, and just a hint of Lovecraftian horror, then this is the series for you.

The Prince of Nothing trilogy is heavily inspired by Dune, LotR, and GoT, you'll find all those things you are looking for in Bakker's books. If you enjoyed GRRM's grim worldview then you'll probably like Bakker's grimdark style.

The Second Apocalypse books by R. Scott Bakker. While the series begins in 2003 it ends in 2016, so part of the series is more recent.

If you really are new here, then you need to understand two main things:
1. Bakker is the most popular author in this general's history, as seen by the sheer number of memes and praise/hate posting.
2. Low IQs / Poorly trained ESLs cannot understand his prose, which is why any mention of him quickly devolves into shit-posting and false flagging. They can't cope with the fact that they will never be part of the club.

Tolkien, Wolfe, Bakker. Any of these is probably what you're looking for. Although, due to your exquisite description, I would probably say that Bakker is what you're looking for.

You can't go wrong either way.
