I read a lot about fungus, picrel is one of my favorite books. Havn't been reading about fungus lately, tends to drop off during winter.

Mushrooms Demystified is really the better book, it teaches identification better then any field guide but at 1000 pages is not very good as a field guide so something like Audubon is good for when you are out in the woods, but I would look for a field guide targeted to your region and not one as general as Audubon and if you provide your region I may be able to provide a better field guide.

Mycology textbooks would be a followup if Mushrooms Demystified is not enough and you really want to learn about mushroom biology which is interesting but not very useful unless you plan on becoming a mycologist or are autistic.

I would say Programming: Principles and Practice is more the bible for C++, K&R requires too much prior knowledge to be a bible.

I would read that in its entirety and will when ever i happen on a copy. Picrel is my favorite, and I have read and reread it in its entirety, 1000 pages of mushroom after mushroom after mushroom.

The Secret Life of Trees sort of falls apart if you understand plant biology, huge amount of unsupported conjecture. I agree with the overall conclusions but the methods are lacking.

>>19011876
Mushrooms seem more like the animal kingdom than plant when you get deep into them. Any seasoned fungal forager can tell you about how they only fruit in places suitable to fruit. Those tall fragile ones which could easily be toppled by wind somehow almost always fruit in place protected by the prevailing winds, you can dig up the mycelium and follow it, see it spreads all over, but the only fruit it sends up is right at the base of that tree where it is protected from those winds. You see examples like this all over the fungal kingdom but there is no suitable explanation beyond there being something more, compared to plants which will just grow anywhere they seeds fall and make the best of it. Picrel, mushroom bibel.
