is this any good? I thought the movie was pretty well done, one of the best sci fi films of the last 10 years despite normies absolutely hating it

What other books are like Roadside Picnic? Pic related? How does it compare to roadside picnic.

I like the way the zone was made into a mean for storytelling. While feeling similar to lite novels with minimal description of mysterious or horror like elements the political elements of the book are strong enough to outshine the science fiction elements. Going in blind the concept of the zone seems very interesting and appealing with the elements of magic or otherworldly elements. After learning more about the authors and political environment the book can then take on a different tone much more indicative of the social climate of the time.

I enjoyed Roadside Picnic after having it suggested and may even be going through it again shortly. It's not a long read and for those who are more into audiobooks someone has recently put a 9 hour version on youtube.

I just watched Annihilation and loved it. Has anyone read the Southern Reach trilogy? Are the books any good? I've read some places that it is pretty smart and well-written as far as the genre goes.

Why did everyone hype this series? The first book is pretty fucking average. Complete waste of a sci-fi concept for played out, needless character drama that could be done in literally any setting.
