I recently saw a production of Wagner's Rheingold and it's just so much better than LOTR. It's actual art, it's meant to be transformative, in Wagner's own view revolutionary even. LOTR is just a drawn-out knight epic by comparison. Seriously, it's just an Arthurian romance except set in a different world. I never understood the appeal.
>but it's full of Christian symbolism and messaging though
Yeah so is Wolfram von Eschenbach's Parzival.
>it's just nice to get lost in the world bro
Okay but fairy tales have been a thing since forever. You can spend the time it takes to read LOTR studying the actual European folklore that underpins the story and actually learn something of substantial value while being entertained. Only reason to prefer LOTR is because it's easier to read according to modern standards. But that's not a defense of LOTR unless "I'm too stupid for the real thing" is the actual argument you're going for.
>he invented like an entire language bro
Cool but have you learned that language? No? So it's actually functionally indistinguishable from gibberish to you? Yes? Why haven't you spent that time learning Latin or Greek?

I'll never understand it.
