Off the top of my head: context of the writing in its broader intellectual and societal tradition; relevance of work within the writers broader corpus; nuances in arguments which require the aforementioned context; alternative readings of an argument; nuances in word choices which cannot be captured in translations; hidden assumptions that are explicitly stated by the author; unifying general patterns or points made by the author; elucidating specific topics which aren't the major topic of any single work. And more. Good secondary is indeed the argument, but the argument understood in as best context possible. It is incredibly presumptuous to think that your initial reading of a single text will provide a complete, maximal understanding if every nuance.
