You shouldn't have made "modern" translations synonymous with dumbing down, politicization, anachronisms, and silly gimmicks. People didn't develop a defense mechanism against modern translations for absolutely no reason at all.

I actually found that modern translations often dumb down the text considerably, like, read the Odyssey in Lattimore's translation then watch the precipitous drop in quality when you start to read Emily Wilson's. And Lattimore's isn't one to embellish like victorian translators of yore.

Why are the translations of classics getting simpler and simpler in language with time? Not that I have a nostalgia for flowery victorian translations but I find it hard to believe that the original texts were "Their ships go very fast"-tier grugspeak.
