What does /lit/ think about Kerouac's On The Road?

I'm currently reading this book and I don't know if I expected too much of the storyline but I think it is slightly overrated.

started this a few days ago, boring and bad so far, it gets better?

ITT: Unreadable, overwrought tryhard books about lolsoedgy youth flapping their self-obsessed egoism around like a faggot with a gold-sequined feather boa in a drag show.

The only slightly entertaining part of this book is when Sal shacks up with Terry and the rest is just so repetitive and BORING.

How can a book about sex, drugs and music be this bad?

Sup /lit/, don't post here often as I'm not too avid a reader, but I'm contemplating reading Kerouac's On The Road. Any ideas of what to expect?

I usually post on /mu/, however I also like to read every once in a while. I have enjoyed Jack Kerouac's On The Road a lot and I would like to ask you for some recommendations like it.
I don't know if /lit/'s general opinion on this book is negative or positive but I suppose I'll find out soon enough.

Does this get any better? I'm in Denver now, and this is pretty dull stuff.

I do not understand lit/'s hate for this book.

Every time this books gets mentioned here, 90% of people call it garbage with no value whatsoever. They say "LOL SURE IZ 16 YR OLD IN HERE"....LOL ISN'T LITERATURE, IS JUST TYPING....and so on

Can anybody give me a reasonable explanation as to why they didn't like this book? How on earth couldn't you like Kerouac naiveness, his prose, and just the warm narrative?

Can somebody explain to me why this book, and the beat generation as a whole, is hailed as genius? I just don't get it.
