What do you think of Naked Lunch /lit/? I've heard very mixed reviews of it. I for one find it incredible.

I'm 50 pages in and I think it sucks.

I put off reading it for years. I liked Junky and Queer and loved the beginning of NL which I read a few times. I finally got to it like two years ago and was either forcing myself through most of it or skipping entire paragraphs/pages. I gave up with like 20 pages left unfinished.

So I was really excited to read this after reading about it, picked it up and just finished it a day ago.
I really don't know man, I feel like I didn't "get" it. At times I was enjoying it, mostly whenever I could tell what the fuck was going on I enjoyed it, but for everything else I found myself just reading tons of edgy little scenes and feeling so detached and uninterested from anything happening.
Was there some sort of theme or mindset present that I should of had while reading it? I went into it pretty blind.
I do want to reread it though, I feel like it deserves a second view.

Also, did anyone see the movie??

What is supposed to be the appeal of this book?

I'm 3 chapters in and not only is it hard to read but the vulgar language makes it hardly enjoyable, I'm seriously considering dropping it.

What the hell is this? I can't seem to take it seriously.

Why is this book considered good again?

Could someone give me a summary of this work? I'm having some slight troubles following the narrative. I know that's partially the point, but still.

What the hell am I reading? The words are in English, but they make no sense

Today I finished Naked Lunch and found that it was quite enjoyable at certain points. However, I had to push myself through several chapters I found boring.
I would give it an 8/10 basing my score on the fidelity the book has to the Beat Generation, my experience while reading it, and its structure.
My favorite parts were:
interracial homosex, Dr. Benway appearances and actions, William Lee and the Agents, that preface at the end, and the appendix regarding drug effects
This is the only Beat Generation work I have read, planning to read Kerouac's On the Road as soon as I get a copy.
