Hume was the only true well-rounded philosopher.
But in seriousness, it is easy to find the major topics (morality, epistemology, metaphysics) and then to read a few early works, some responses, and so on. Find good articles on the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy; very easy to see a quick who-said-what/who-responded-how on all of those issues. It won't make you adept but it gives you a framework to start filling in.
