If I want to get the most out of Voltaire's Candide, do I need to have read Leibniz's Theodicy, or is just reading the Wikipedia article on 'best of all possible worlds' enough?

In First Truths, when Leibniz says that there can be no two things that have exactly the same qualities (i.e. differ in number alone), is he talking about the physical properties of things, like texture or shape, or non-physical properties?
