I know a person with whom it is impossible to communicate. She never listens to what is really said, but instead creates a contrived interpretation of the words that are spoken to her. She doesn't understand sentences that are spoken to her as coherent syntactic wholes. She parses them out into individual words and then understands them separately according to their emotional connotation.

I have a hard time understanding how such a person can function in the world. It is as if there is no conception of a reality exterior to an egotistical self conception. She often contradicts herself while speaking but never admits to any incoherency. She sees herself as a dominant and intelligent person and tolerates no opposition to this pretended identity.

Her personality resembles that of a vulnerable narcissist (she often brags about her accomplishments, no matter how insignificant they might be, and has explicit contempt for many people), but is that superficial diagnosis all there is to it? Is this only narcissism? That doesn't feel like a satisfactory explanation.

I would like to understand how her mind works in order to better deal with similar people in the future.

Any explanations, advice or related lit suggestions, please?

Would it be also correct, then, to stop idolising sad female writers?

Have I gotta become a THOT in social media if I want to be published nowadays?

It doesn't seem at all relevant for the style, and I'm very self conscious, but it seems plastering your face all over Instagram etc is the way forward now.

historically, have there been more atheist or theist intellectuals? I can't think of many intelligent authors/philosophers who believed in God.

Damn, so me ending up on the deans list had nothing to do with me sitting up all night reading philosophy? I guess I payed for the expensive courses. Really activates the ol' almonds.
