Outside the Abrahamic religions, "canonical" texts tend to be more diffuse so it can be difficult to say what's the most important text for, say, Buddhism.

That said, there's this chart for a dilletante's overview.

Oh and I had a few questions about the chart:

Some of the books must be trolls, or I am just getting incredibly filtered. I read de Sade's philosophy in the bedroom, and I left it feeling absolutely disgusted with life. Not a good advocation for that philosophy at all. And Mozart's Don Giovanni, is indeed about a hedonistic womanizer, but did the creator of this chart even watch the play? It doesn't end well for Don Giovanni:

"The statue offers him a final chance to repent as death draws near, but Don Giovanni adamantly refuses. The statue disappears and Don Giovanni cries out in pain and terror as he is surrounded by a chorus of demons, who carry him down to Hell."

I didn't have any problems until that Taoism section. I understand that Heidegger had affiliations with the Kyoto school, and that he had some students who were a part of it or something. But I still could not understand what was the connection between Heidegger and Taoism. I really wanted to try and read him though because I wanted to learn about the western side of Taoism. And it's hard to define what I mean, but I guess I was expecting for Heidegger to be to Taoism, what Schopenhauer was to Buddhism.

Uh other then that, for political existentialism, I'm not reading non of that. What does communism have to do with life philosophy? But I went and read communist manifesto anyway. Then I tried to read Sartre but got so bored I dropped it. Regardless, political existentialism went over my head. I guess it's supposed to be like 'live for the political ideology' or something like that. By far the worst texts on the chart, just so dull, boring and lifeless. (Actually, they go just above Sade's PEDO ramblings). But maybe I was supposed to be reading the right wing ones instead, and I've set aside Evola in my future reading list.

Well anons, when I discovered this chart, I was in awe, because alot of doors and ideas seemed to open up to me. But now that I have gone through all of them (or at least tried to), I am left with a feeling of a bit of emptiness. It doesn't help that I also already read almost all the major religious texts, and the entire eastern canon. (Both of these in pic related) Now it feels like I've gone through it all, but there has to be more right? Somebody please give the good recs

?????
My main interests are eastern philosophy and their epics, and I had no idea that there was this many good books in that area. Are you reading only good books? How many can there be? Can you share the list/profile, or is it attached to you somehow (like amazon puts a name or something, I dunno, I don't use good reads so I wouldn't know)? Like apart from the main ones on pic related, what else is there? I'm asking because I've read the books in pic related for Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, Confuscianism and Chinese Folk Religion. But sadly I am pseud so I read the abridged version of the mahabarata, couldn't stomach the whole thing. Regardless, where do I go from here, you seem to have read alot about it.

Hello anons, I am on a spiritual journey. I have decided that I want to learn more about Buddhism. In this chart, the books are split between two sects. Mahayana and Theravada. I don't really know anything about these. Which should I read first? Or which books on Buddhism should I read at all?

Well /lit/, I decided that I wanted to try reading the Koran, and I'm getting filtered hard. Is this really supposed to be on the same level as the bible? Am I just too dumb to understand its beauty, or is it fucked because of the translation to English? Pic related because I plan to read the religious texts of the major world religions.

Some of these translations are horrible (quran) and some are the best available (Bible) but I don't know enough about the other shit to make a new chart.

10 - not completely related, but I think esotericism & occult is inextricably connected to mysticism, which in turn is inextricably connected to religion
