I just finished reading Ham on Rye by Charles Bukowski and I really liked it. I liked the gritty realism and dark humor. Obviously I going to read more of his books, but do you guys have any recommendations for other authors that I might like?

Thank you so much for introducing me to Bukowski, /lit/. This book was amazing.

Can you recommend any more raw accounts of living in the American Depression?

Quick question about Ham on Rye.
What chapter was it where Hank has a discussion about writing with a friend, then they get into a fist fight? Shortly after Pearl Harbour happens.
I need to reference the chapter number but I lent my copy to a friend and I can't find it online anywhere.
Thank you!

Also, discuss Ham on Rye.

>This is the worst book I've ever read. There's no moral, theme or lesson behind it. You don't learn anything. It's not interesting. There are a thousand different characters and it's nearly impossible to keep track of which one is which because every character is equally boring, uninteresting and one-dimensional. Also, Bukowski was obviously a sick, perverted, twisted person. He refers to one guy as a "fetus-eater," and he goes into detail explaining things about bowel movements and masturbation (and in one case, one of his friends does a sexual favor for a dog). The story takes place from the early 1920's through 1941, and before I read it, I thought it might give an interesting perspective on what it was like to live at that time, with the depression and then pearl harbor going on, but no. It was boring as hell. Bukowski's life is incredibly boring and uneventful, and I really don't understand why he chose to give the world the misfortune of this book. It's terrible. Nothing happens. It ends so abruptly. I hate Bukowski.

Alright /lit/, I've got a question for those of you who still buy books and keep bookshelves. Which author do you have the most works by in your collection? Second most? Third?

Screenshots are encouraged.

Pic related: I have 10 works by him even though I don't really read his stuff anymore. Followed probably by Hemingway and finally Burroughs.

Ok after A long time of mainly being a reader of Sci fi and space opera. I just recently read ham on rye.

Gotta say I liked it. It was good, I have rarely read writing that was as good as this.

Whats next for me. I have no idea where to go. The world is full of books so where do you start?

Who else cried at the end of this?

"You're the best I've known."

"Thanks, Hank.."

Best ending to a book ever.
