How the fuck do they get away with advocating pedophilia? You'd think it would be as socially damaging to someone's credibility as being openly racist or being pro-rape...it basically is pro-rape. He started a fucking cult wherein he overtly characterized himself as the symbolic embodiment of traditional Japanese values/ideals. It ended with a traditional ritualistic suicide which he staged as the final sacrifice of old Japanese cultural beliefs to modernity.

We have a solid understanding of his religious beliefs. /Lit is just completely filtered by the fact he was a cult leader; partially because Japanese forms of worship/religion are so alien to Westerners and partially because midwits latch on to the negative connotation of "cult." The latter point is one of the main reasons he's a controversial figure in Japan; his art speaks for itself though, hence him still being lauded.

This was posted as a joke but I believe it to be true. Mishima/DFW both ride the line between being popular/meme on here so maybe siding hard on one side of that is just controversial...shitting on DFW on one of his threads seems to stoke mostly derision though.
