>The truth is you already know what it's like. You already know the difference between the size and speed of everything that flashes through you and the tiny inadequate bit of it all you can ever let anyone know. As though inside you is this enormous room full of what seems like everything in the whole universe at one time or another and yet the only parts that get out have to somehow squeeze out through one of those tiny keyholes you see under the knob in older doors. As if we are all trying to see each other through these tiny keyholes.
>But it does have a knob, the door can open. But not in the way you think...The truth is you've already heard this. That this is what it's like. That it's what makes room for the universes inside you, all the endless inbent fractals of connection and symphonies of different voices, the infinities you can never show another soul. And you think it makes you a fraud, the tiny fraction anyone else ever sees? Of course you're a fraud, of course what people see is never you. And of course you know this, and of course you try to manage what part they see if you know it's only a part. Who wouldn't? It's called free will, Sherlock. But at the same time it's why it feels so good to break down and cry in front of others, or to laugh, or speak in tongues, or chant in Bengali--it's not English anymore, it's not getting squeezed through any hole.

Worked my ass off to get into a T14 law school and now I realize it was a huge mistake. All that planning and hard work just so I can be miserable for 3 years and then work 50+ hour work weeks for countless more years to pay off student loans. And then, if I even manage to have a family, keep slaving away just to provide for others who'll get to use and enjoy my money more than I ever will.

If I could go back in time I would've done something else but by the time I started having major doubts about law it was too late to change my major and I'm too proud to be content with my current meme degree from a non-elite school. I guess this is what I get for being naive and chasing prestige above all else.

At least my Asian parents will be proud that I eventually went to an top school just like my siblings they always compare me to. I'll either grind it out and hope I die young or, if I don't have much to lose, do all I can to amass as much power as possible to fuck up the status quo in a way that at least I can be remembered by others as something other than a stereotypical "soulless" chink.

It's so fun to see people in the US and Canada being confused by this guy. Can't you just take his positions as philosophical positions? It would be way easier. But no, you have to label him as someone who is either a "believer" or an "atheist", because you can't think outside these categories. So many of Peterson's positions could be easily undermined if they were just analyzed by a purely philosophical point of view.
But apparently all that you and your journalists can do is try call him a "christian", a "bigot" or whatever other label, trying to find personal reasons for his philosophical beliefs. He won't let himself be caught unprepared on that, and not because he's very smart, but because he's an academic: he's accustomed to discuss problems without making it personal.
People in the media, and most people outside universities never learn how to do that, sadly. And they do believe that if you hold a certain argument for the wrong personal beliefs, then the argument is wrong, which is not true.
So all I keep seeing are discussions on whether Peterson is a fascist or not, whether he's christian, whether he's antifeminist, and not one single discussion about whether his philosophical positions - e.g. on the importance of narratives for the psyche - are true or not.

I don't mean to be an edgy LARPer but am I the only one who wishes I was born sometime in the past? I hate living in the end of history, and no I don't mean the democratic end of history but the capitalist end of history. Politics is theatre, our politicians are no longer bold visionaries, they are just managers. All their powers have been ceded to the financial institutions, the bureaucracy, and the elites whose special interests and lobbyists maintain stability at all costs. Nothing ever changes, our capitalist system just trudges along. I feel like we're living for nothing, all the traditional structures of society have been torn down and there's no point in being an intellectual or pursuing self-improvement. I wish I could've been born in an era where I had something to care and fight for.

Then again, I feel like all the sacrifices of great men, who actually fought for what they believed in, have been for null. So maybe it doesn't matter in the end.
