How do you write good children/teen fiction? I want to write something that's good and not YA trash like Hunger Games.
I've been writing for a while now, not yet published, and I'm thinking of trying to write a sci-fi novel - I have some good and unique ideas.
I think I want to write "childrens" stories because I don't really think I have anything meaningful or "literary" to say, I just want to tell a fun story.
My target demographic would be 8-13 year old boys - I want to write like the stuff I enjoyed at that age.
Is it worth the effort? Is the market oversaturated? Should I try and appeal to older demographic instead? Should I not worry about demographic at all and just write it?

Why does /sffg/ never talk about YA? Artemis Fowl and Seventh Tower unironically are two of the most unique and interesting worlds in fantasy.

Bit surprised nobody has posted this yet. The covers of these books were always so radiant that they'd instantly catch my eye, every time we'd go to the library.

Aw man, a rush of feels and nostalgia just hit me. I remember going as a class to the library. It was so big and neat and quiet. Very nice place. But being the little nerd I was, I never read because I thought it was boring.

What are your thoughts on the Artemis Fowl series? For some reason I never finished it after reading The Lost Colony back in 2006, so I've started rereading the whole thing. It's pretty fun. Simple, but nice quick reads. And Holly is my waifu.

I read a lot of stuff as a child. More than now
