For the reason stated, it removes all external contexts and contrivances and concessions.
>external contexts
There is no larger story framing it all that we have to account for and apply to every character and consider how it affects them or plots to keep track of and how everything is connected and influences other events/charaters.
>contrivances
Stream of consciousness is not an accurate representation of how we think even if it occasionally lines up, most of the time our thoughts are a mess or autistically focused and of no use in the normal literary sense. Stream of consciousness in literature is contrived and The Mezzanine points this out by attempting to provide an accurate representation within the limits of literature, it accomplishes this by the primary purpose being the study/exploration of how we think and not trying to obfuscate the ways in which it is contrived.
>concessions
Normally in stream of consciousness we have to make concessions to the story, the style, structure, etc, The Mezzanine is freed from that because of the lack of external contexts, the only concession it has to make is to its own simple and blatant contrivance of structure.

Exercises in Style is the easier example to understand, the story is as contrived as you can get, created purely to be something good for showing how style effects every other aspect of literature since everything in it is conveyed purely through style. The Mezzanine accomplishes much the same thing as Exercises in Style.

Execution is all that matters. Your execution sounds like it will be a thinly veiled rant so will not be good.

You can reduce most stories to the hero's journey which is all people are saying when they say it is used for every successful story. The Mezzanine is literally a story about a man who rides an escalator and it takes to the hero's journey quite well.

I made a map for The Mezzanine for a thread about lit maps, picrel. The fantasy fags were not ammused but I am kind of proud of it.

The Mezzanine is great but it has a tendency to screw with your head especially if you read it in one sitting,

The Mezzanine is great, quick read as well. I made picrel for a /lit/ maps thread awhile back, the fantasy fags were not amused.
