It's so painfully obvious that Nietzsche tried to convince himself, not us, when he claimed that a positive perspective towards life is the superior perspective.

He probably got fed up with Nihil and couldn't bear the thought of a meaningless life anymore. What a wuss

How do I read Nietzsche?

I read the first part of Thus Spake Zarathustra, and made some sense of it, but others say it's better to start with his other works to better understand it. I'm pretty confused, help.

What is it with with nietzsche that attracts pseudointellectuals?
Almost every time someone has tried to play it smart to me, it is with nietzsche.


NIetzsche this, nietzsche that and zero knowledge on anything else.


Not to mention that most of the time they misinterpret what he says or simplify it ridiculously.

Opinions?

Im thinking about reading some of Nietzsche's work, but I do not know what book to start with? Should I read Beyond good and evil first or Thus spoke Zarathustra? Or maybe I should start with something else?

What are some entry level Philosophy books? I own Beyond Good and Evil and read a few pages and never read it again. I think I should work my way up to that. My personal philosophy is that there is no right or wrong and that anything thing we do makes absolutely no difference.

Hello. My name is Friedrich. I'm a sensitive, witty, profound and ambitious German. I realized most of the Western Philosophy is contaminated with morals, the ego of its authors and semantic confussions.

I realized that meaning and transgression can't be achieved with the coldness of logical reasoning but with the passion of art and spirituality.

Surrounded by the feeble minded people of the late XIXth century, I sought companions in the ancient Greece and Rome.

With this scenario framing my life, I started turning upside down many ideals and provoking society where it hurts it more. I had no constructive alternatives so I keep on destroying morals and feeble concepts.

But one day I needed to trace a path upon all that mess I had done.

And just like that, I ended up being another prophet claiming the arrival of a new reign, the Reign of the Overman. But I realized it. I was just another Christ. The coming of the Reign of God. The Bridge to the Overman. Just promises made to save something from the chaos I had spread.

That's why my last letter before becoming a vegetal was signed as "The Crucified".

Despite this, I'm proud of my footprint in this life. Sometimes the world needs some fires to cast their light onto the foundations of its best buildings.

What's the best book to begin with X?

In my case, I want to get into Nietzsche. I know his basics from a class, but haven't read anything by him. I heard Beyond Good and Evil can be a good place to start. Is it?

accidentally posted this in another thread instead of making my own....anyway

I'm feeling a lot of existential dread right now /lit/. I decided to would bring this here since a lot of you are pretty well versed in philosophy...Maybe you can help me. I've lost the ability to care about things because everything seems pointless.

We're all going to die and be forgotten. Even the universe is going to perish once enough time passes. So why care? What's the point of going to work and saving money just to die and leave it all behind ? What's the point of having children and raising a family if they're just going to die? What's the point of painting or writing when everyone in the world is going to forget you? I used to be happy when I had faith, but everything seems empty to me now. Most of the time I sit around and watch tv without reacting to it. I've thought about suicide, but I can't bring myself to do it because of my family. My husband is a devout Catholic (he thinks I am too), and if I were to kill myself it would destroy him. For those of you who don't know, Catholics believe suicides go to hell. I'm pregnant too, which complicates things since it feels like I would be murdering the kid.
