This was better than I expected. Yes, there is a lot of silly plotholes and the action parts are a bit too drawn out and tiring for my liking, but the way the author structured the plot to connect the story of a tortured, depressed, stoic soldier and a suave space pirate was great. Surprisingly good at showing the despair and hopelessness of war from a soldier's perspective.
