I thought the same as you, until I started reading Modern fantasy and realize that Tolkien was the pinnacle and which no one can surpass. Especially now with fantasy authors making self-inserts of themselves.

The reason why Tolkien is called the father of fantasy is because he hasn't been surpassed, and never will be if modern "fantasy" authors use fantasy to insert their own philosophical ideas via their self-insert gary stu main character

>Why is Tolkien the sole genre fiction author who’s works are considered literature?
Because of how much soul he put into his works. It cannot be denied that Lord of the Rings is literature, especially with how much Tolkien worked on it.

>I know he’s a the father of fantasy in which other fantasy authors try to replicate, but is there something more to it?
Nope. Him being the father of fantasy is pretty much it. No other fantasy author comes close to the greatness that is Tolkien. They either try to copy what made Tolkien's works great, not knowing why they were great to begin with, or instead, use fantasy to insert their own philosophical ideas via their self-insert gary stu main character. pic relates is one such "fantasy" series that does the latter. Since Tolkien passing, Fantasy has been suffering ever since.

>IIRC, he's a Canadian fantasy author who is memed around here
He’s not really memed around here. It’s just a few redditors trying to force him on us.
>because one of his books features his self-insert character getting cuckolded, followed by an explanation of why cuckolding is a good thing.
He has two self-inserts. The one that gets cuck and the other is the Gary Stu protagonist who’s perfect every way and an ubermensch because he was taught philosophy or some shit.

>Achmian was the self insert, not Kellhus.
And you believe his lies? With this shit being written unironically.

>Books similar to No Longer Human are much appreciated
The author of this book self-inserted as a sociopathic, "philosophical" Übermensch. Yes, its cringe as it sounds.

What does /lit/ think of authors who write stories solely for the reason to self-insert in? Especially if they also insert their own philosophical ideas into the story that helps said self-insert?
