Just got Ulysses, but I was wondering, after doing a little research on it, should I read the Odyssey first? And before that should I read the Iliad?

Read the other two? Hobbit and Silmarillian?

Heya /lit/. Quick question... Was wondering if anyone could tell me which version of The Odyssey is the best version to read?

Drama or tragedy gives a cathartic release for people, so it is, or was, rather popular. Not all classics are sad though.

All the inside jokes, like Ulysses, Dante's Inferno, will become all clear.

Is the Odyssey supposed to be difficult to read? The story itself is pretty straight-forward, but I find myself skipping over details and getting characters mixed up because there are so many names.

And it'll go on for half a page describing them and their attributes and do nothing with them for the rest of the story(so far). It does this a lot and it makes it difficult for me, who's already bad with names, to remember everyone and I end up just skimming over unimportant names.

Well /lit/ i need your help do you think Odysseus is a hero (By the classical definition) Or not?
And please explain your reasoning
