How do I make time travel work? I've been thinking about an idea for a time travel story, but every time I try to brainstorm I go pic related because I can't comprehend how a time travel system would work or even be possible. Help?

I'm a poor kid who went to inner-city public school my whole life. I read all the time, but I feel as though I lack the eloquence and the cognitive abilities of the people around me. What can I read to make me sound and be smarter?
