The length. I don't know what happens but I'm also a bit not-looking-forward-to characters I remember little of.
>>12443893
What makes it good? I'll read it, of course, just hoping to get enthralled quickly, or at all. Although I need to get through ASD in-between for the whole whopping ONE discussion post about the monthly reading book.

>Now, to separate science fiction from fantasy. This is impossible to do, and a moment’s thought will show why. Take psionics; take mutants such as we find in Ted Sturgeon’s wonderful MORE THAN HUMAN. If the reader believes that such mutants could exist, then he will view Sturgeon’s novel as science fiction. If, however, he believes that such mutants are, like wizards and dragons, not possible, nor will ever be possible, then he is reading a fantasy novel. Fantasy involves that which general opinion regards as impossible; science fiction involves that which general opinion regards as possible under the right circumstances. This is in essence a judgment-call, since what is possible and what is not possible is not objectively known but is, rather, a subjective belief on the part of the author and of the reader.

>Shades of Grey apologists
They didn't even get married at the end because of the stupid complimentary shit, what a copout. The book had good themes, albeit executed poorly in my opinion, but overall felt like a spoiled orgasm. I think being #1 in a trilogy is a big part of it but also lol never continuing the series, why is this becoming more and more of a thing or am I looking at outliers?

I don't think I'm big into Culture. I tried reading Consider Pheibas and didn't understand much of what was going on. I skimmed through the synopsis' of some of the other Culture books recommended often and wasn't too interested in their plots.
Appreciate the rec, though.

KKC gets shit on because it is some of the most abhorrent unadulterated SHIT in fantasy. Please, justify the Gary Stu Chronicles of Kvothe, the twelfth-degree lovemaking pussy slayer 420 who gets everything he wants and how that this turns out to be a decent story.

I'll wait.

No, not really. It can be argued that the main character is a bit of a Gary Stu with his ability to always be right and talk his way out of any situation. It becomes incredibly grating early on.

>not Elantris
Wrong wrong wrong. Why are so many people being wrong ITT? You read Elantris because 1) it's on the same planet as Emperor's Soul, and 2) if you're reading because meta, then Elantris is the earliest story we have so far.

IT'S INFECTIOUS

I'd say some of the Mistborn novels are better than WoK purely due to shorter length since WoA and HoA had strong pacing issues too. At least pacing in Mistborn seems to be better in Era 2. I don't actually know what I'd personally consider the best Sanderson book, though, but it sure isn't tWoK.

>>8278894
Nah, WoK does have serious pacing problems, even acknowledged by the Mormon Overlord himself.

Yeah. Didn't really care for Fall of Hyperion either. It was okay but as a straight sequel so different in format to Hyperion, it was jarring. Hyperion itself was alright but I think it's severely overrated, especially with connection to the other books.

The reasoning behind his side projects is to not burn him out but I don't understand it so much since the entire reason he became a writer is because he wanted to write the Cosmere. Maybe there's some ulterior explanation behind it but it makes no logical sense to me.

There were other reasons posted about why Rothfuss' main series is poor, far beyond mere popularity. I do agree with the poster who said that this is discussed in EVERY thread and I think we need some type of copypaste for it. The guy continually crying is why I posted that image about a hugbox since this guy has completely flipped his shit and is throwing a toddler-tier tantrum since someone dare disagreed with him about his shitty fucking generic Gary Stu series because god fucking forbid a normal have their opinion challenged.

His type of person does not belong on 4chan especially seeing as how he cannot do something so simple as shutting the fuck up and LURKING MORE.
