The soul is immortal.
The body eventually collapses under the weight of time.
Existence as human is merely a step on a metaphysical staircase. You can't directly perceive life on a lower step or on a higher step. You also don't know if such a stair has a beginning or an end.
Your life is judged accordingly by a metaphysical arbiter. Those with a poor previous life (assuming it's not the first one) are overcome by despair and 'earthly' feelings and choose forgetfulness (Lethe archetype). They have thus 'wasted' a life and begin the next one. The ones who lived their lives by well-thought principles go on to the immortal plains, where by their mere existence they will experience a greater grace than the highest that can be found on earth (various art works); and then they shall have intuition of even a higher grace, to which the great ones will converge to, and so on.
Do not value existence as a human for its own sake. Abandon those who hold you back and want to stay back themselves, and try to break each chain that binds you. Look at most for platonic friendship, not 'family' or sexual relationships. Avoid harming the innocents.
