I was implying that he was implying that ancient Sanskrit texts were not suitable for us 'western white people' but somehow ancient Hebrew texts are.

Buddhism, just like Christianity, in how it's practiced by most people is a joke.

It's true. Almost anyone I've ever met that calls themselves Christian is nothing of the sort. They could maybe recite 7-8 of the 10 Commandments, John 3:16 (which for some reason is supposed to be the most important part of the Bible?), maybe half of one of the Psalms, that god really hates it when you fornicate, and "Love your neighbor as you would love yourself". None of them actually do these things, or even take them to heart. They seem to be some of the most hateful and self righteous people I've met especially if the other party in question is non-christian.

Now the homemade half-assed western Buddhists I've encountered can be a little cringe-inducing on occasion but it seems to me that they are exploring buddhism because they are honestly interested in becoming better and not just putting that label on themselves because of social pressure. They both are getting to the same place nowhere but one is infinitely more hospitable to be around when they are at their worst, at least for me.
