The power and beauty of Victorian and Edwardian era steam technology both on its own and as a metaphor for man's mastery of engineering and the hope it brought people living in that age. A hope which was annihilated by WW1. It would be a great subject for a well written non-fiction piece or for the right fictional work, say about an express locomotive engineer who is forced to go from the finest trains of England to the front line shell carrying railroads in WW1's most horrific battles.

Instead all we get that touches on the technology is fucking steampunk degeneracy.
