One thing that I don't understand about Spengler is why does he say that poetry is dead. According to his theory, we're reaching the equivalent of the Roman Republic's fall, and that was the most prolific era for Roman poetry and literature in general. Horatio, Virgil, Ovid, Lucan, Juvenal, Marcial, all of them came from those years between the fall of the Republic and the early days of the Empire.

Can someone explain me this apparent incongruence?
