About halfway through Wife Mans Fear. I absolutely cannot take it anymore. This is shit, through and through.
For every one chapter that is actually interesting, we get 2-3 chapters of Denna bullshit, or 2-3 chapters of Auri bullshit, or 2-3 chapters of Kvothe moping around about Denna/Auri bullshit.

Also, it's absolutely infuriating that this is supposed to be a story that Kvothe is telling to Chronicler / Bast. He remembers so many minute details and entire conversations, way more than anyone could ever remember, even someone as clever and genius as Kvothe is written to be. Not only that, but everything is just him 1-upping someone else, and him always having the perfect witty thing to say. The entire fucking story outside of the "present time" chapters and the early stuff when he was still traveling with his Family is just "someone did something, so I did that same thing, only BETTER, and everyone clapped, and applauded, and I was raised to be the highest among all the students and they all loved me!"

The actual prose is legitimately beautiful in parts, and Rothfuss is great at painting pictures, but fuck me if the actual story isn't absolutely awful. And what's worse, I read ahead on some of the spoilers for the rest of the book and saw the "questions to be answered in book 3" and realized that, essentially, nothing will happen in book 2. He doesn't get expelled, he doesn't train with the Amyr, we don't find out anything about Dennas shadowy patron, whats behind the door, what happened to literally everyone in the story right now (Will, Sim, Fela, Denna, etc), why is he now 'kote the innkeeper', what the fuck did he do to start the war, where did bast/kvothe meet, etc etc.

Not only that, but Rothfuss has become increasingly hostile towards his fans asking when book 3 is going to be done. Dudes own editor called him out and said she hasn't seen essentially anything out of him in over 6 years. This mother fucker really had a shadow writer that left him hanging, didn't he?

Fuck Kingkiller Chronicles, and fuck Kvothe.
