Salinger had somewhat of a shitty legacy by the time he kicked the bucket due to the memoirs from Joyce and his daughter (as far as I know). I'm reading a lot of his later stuff right now though (Franny and Zoey mainly) and the Buddhist/Zen/Mellow factor is really strong compared to when he wrote Bananafish and even Catcher. While trying to be Zen doesn't automatically make him not-a-dick, I just find it sort of hard to believe.

Were Joyce and Margaret just attention whoring?
