Is the Bible worth regarding for a person interested in morality and philosophy?

I'm thinking of reading the bible, what is the best translation? No ye old crap.

I'll give you guys the TL;DR first and then tell the whole story.
TL;DR in my country, they are rewriting books that are considered racists and I'm afraid they'll rewrite the bible. What to do?

I don't care if a person is christian, muslin, atheist or whatever, so let's forget the religion for a moment, I'm more worried because people are rewriting books.

So I want to read the bible (essential lit). I hear you guys say you should read the King James Version? Any specific publisher I should get it from? There are many versions out and I just want to make sure I get a readable one (not too small font). Thanks

A few years ago my friends dad had a non-fiction bible, recently I have been trying to find it with no luck, and my friend doesn't remember it. I hope someone here will.

It kinda read like Richard Dawkins had written it, it started with.
"In the beginning there was a big bang"

and went on to outline the history of the universe as the old testament, and the history of human achievement as the new testament. All split into the same gospels and books as the Bible.
