This got recommended to me on the last NGE thread. Only been lurking this board for a few weeks; it's funny how often this topic crops up.

I figured this would be your first suggestion. I read the book because it was recommended to me with regards to Evangelion.

I regret nothing.

Childhood's End.

It's like 5 novels at once, but it's definitely worth the trip. Rather short for a novel, guaranteed to surprise you more than once.

Currently reading Childhood's End by Arthur C. Clarke. It'st he first I read of his, apart from a short story called the 9 Billion Names of God, which was badassery of the highest order.

So far, I like it a whole bunch.

I won't read the 2001 books because I've read the plots on wiki a while ago.
