Is a creative writing degree, or for that matter, any form of an english degree worth it?

I can quite easily major in something economically viable like business/economics, computer science, engineering, or a number of "hard" sciences. I would like to be guarenteed a job, but I really would like to study English, creative writing specifically.

Basically, are English degrees really just $40,000 pieces of paper that no one honestly cares about?
