It's not a terrible book, it's just a book for sixth graders marketed as "Harry Potter for adults". Shameless self insert, virtue signaling twist, and lame character motivation.
I have no idea why it's on the USMC Commandant's reading list.

I'm also trying to remember a book I read years ago. Maybe this can be a book finder thread? Here's mine:
>It starts out kind of spy themed like an Ian Fleming novel (but not Ian Fleming novel), but you know kind of Tom Clancy pulpy sort of.
>Basically this guy is standing by a private twin prop, he's American but he doesn't have a name or anything
>His men bring him some Soviet exmilitary type guys causing civil unrest, they have bags on their heads
>He and his crew have a brief chat and pack Soviets into the plane
>They take off, heading toward a maximum security prison or something
>Shortly into the flight they start an interrogation
>Long story short, there's an action scene and the Russian guys miraculously escape, and the plane crashes with the Americans, and the rest of the story is about catching this guy
Can anyone help me?
