Could a kind anon please defend my wanting to switch my major to linguistics? I feel as if having an English degree just won't cut it these days. Linguistics looks quite appealing to me, since it's the closest that I can get to a science degree, without the difficulty that they entail.

What if I just double major?

What if I just minor in English and major in linguistics?

My college doesn't have any clubs within the realm of language arts. I'm looking to start my own shitty book club, but I don't think I can handle all the responsibilities associated with it. There's a lot more paperwork than there needs to be in order to start these fucking things, and to keep it going. Clubs here also need to reach a minimum quota of collective volunteering hours every semester. Fuck that.

That being said, if you were to start your own club, what would you guys name it? What books would you recommend your club to read?

What are the best books on writing?

I don't mean books on story, or on character development. I'm talking purely about improving style and prose. Particularly when dealing with non-fiction and essay writing.
