I used to think that people being cruel on here was just for jokes, but such is clearly no longer the case. Whether it's "doomer" nonsense, edgy Nietzschean "ecofascists" or failed anti-natalists, this board seems to be intensely negative. Even the posters on here seem to be always angry. Posting a book that is life-affirming, positive, low-brow, or vaguely related to personal improvement of the self almost always dies with few replies.

Do you guys enjoy being in a constant state of frustruation or something? I don't see why anyone would read anything from a chart made to exalt purposefully nihilistic, depressing books. it's like you are trying to accelerate mental illness. Whether it is fetishization of terror, pain, of literal schizophrenia, this board seems to be deeply broken.

Surely you still have a heart anon, we all do. Does this make you happy? What would your mother think? Is there something wrong?

I, like many others, will be switching to classes online very soon and was wondering if anyone has tips for staying productive and continuing to read as I should be doing during this time. It is so easy to get distracted from proper work because of being able to just sit at home. I have just wasted the past week with YouTube, 4chan, and mindless junk. How do I avoid doing this and stay productive?

It gives you aspirations for things that will never exist and subverts your ideas regarding that which does. Don't get me wrong, I see why people enjoy it. In the moment, there is nothing quite like a great book or movie. But once you are done, you are just left with another void that cannot be filled. Real life cannot compare.

I feel as if authors and many of their readers are legitimately psychologically sick. They keep reading and reading in hopes of finding some fiction that will persist with them forever and somehow become real.

I just finished reading an anthology of Chinese literature and while it was so fun to read, it almost fills one with a hole to know that such things will never be experienced in my life.

Even the greatest men in history had their guilty pleasures. What are yours? Perhaps adventure stories, romance stories, light novels, devotionals of folk religion?

I personally really like folk tales from around where I live and books about mountain climbing. I'd like to read some more light novels as well, as I've liked what I have read so far. I'd love any recc's anyone might have.
