seems like you picked up random stuff from the canon of any genre and era. Pro tip: don't just read shit from /lit/ charts. Just pick up whatever seems interesting by its own content. See what time periods, locations or genres have the most interesting premises and go from there. If you like a book check out the authors' other works or writers that have a similar background, theme or whatever else (e.g. faulkner -> other southern writers etc.).
Reading all of this canon shit just so you can say that you read le classics is stupid, don't do that. Digging deeper into specific categories is better than scratching the whole surface, especially because the former invokes a sort of passion while the latter will just feel like a chore in the long run.

I keep hearing that erotic literary (fan)fiction for women is pretty much what porn is for men, in terms of popularity and such. Is the market really that big? Isn't this basically a gold mine that can be easily exploited? Any anons here who wanna shair their experience writing stuff like that?

I can't be the only one who has noticed how the jannies have been so annoying lately. Why are they being such reddit mods all of a sudden? I opened like 7 tabs today (most of which were directly related to literature), and after an hour or two all of them were deleted. One even got moved to /his/ even though it made perfect sense for it to be posted on this board. Is it just one guy having a power trip or what?

has some good general advie that most people would agree on. the problem with this book (and many of his lectures) is that he tries to build a bridge from political history, philosophy and sociology to his advice which can be very misleading and misinformed.
Take anything he says with a grain of salt and please don't pretend that he is free from any ideology. Research those historical events that he mentions. He's not a historian nor a philosopher.

Well, so much for the analysis. But what does the solution look like? Does he take into account what drastic consequences a basic income would have on the economy (e.g. inflation, wages, workers' protection etc.)? I mean there have been experiments with thousands of people before but they do not at all represent what would happen to the economy if it applied to everyone.
Also, does he in any way criticize capitalism for these social issues? Because if not then idk if I can take him any seriously

I never read fantasy but your writing struck me as too simplistic and formulaic (though maybe that's what the audience asks for, idk). This would probably get you a decent grade in high school because it "follows the rules", but the world and the characters hardly feel authentic and overall the story reads like I've already read it somewhere even though, as I said, I never read fantasy.
This is like what probably some AI would spit out if you asked it to write a fantasy story.

May I ask you what the purpose of this story is? Like is there any "meaning" attached to it or is just your average heroic story? Because the latter definitely seems to be the case. If you want to write genuinely good, authentic stories you're gonna have to do more than that.
Maybe you should read more novels and engage in anthropology to get a better understanding of human beings.

Look, maybe writing books isn't for you, but have you ever considered writing stories or plot lines for video games? 90% of fantasy rpgs are exactly how your story reads (generic, inauthentic, boring, only used as a background to the character basically). So maybe you should look into that. Code monkeys are usually too lazy to write stuff and they never read so they can't tell whether you writing is good or bad anyway.

Hope that helps. Keep going man

Does anyone else quickly forget what you read? I'm currently reading ghosts of my life by mark fisher and even though I find it all very interesting, I already forgot what the last chapter I read was even about. I'm a slow reader, I don't read everyday and when I do it's only 20-30 pages. I feel like it's better to read lots of pages in very few sittings just to remember everything better but I haven't tried it out yet.
How much do you guys read and do you have any trouble recalling the information you gathered while doing so?

We are growing. Leftism in American Politics has pretty much been killed and replaced the pale facsimile that is Neo-liberalism, it has been reborn, and is in its infancy right now.
We have a few rhetorical speakers, but most are aged and on their way out.

not to sound deep, but I almost felt like that was the point that Fitzgerald tried to make.

Gatsby had morals, convictions and a goal. Had you followed him from his beginning (on his road to wealth), you'd likely have rooted for him. In a way, he embodies the ideal tale and outcome for someone set out to live the American Dream.

Though seeing how that landed up for him, one could argue that the American Dream itself is crooked and flawed.

There's probably a lot more that one can say about this but it's all that's coming to my head about the book, I loved reading it in highschool.

This is proof everyone just spouted names of well-known books. People who think 1984 is an important book do not say it's a great book. It's not even the greatest book in Orwell's corpus let alone worthy of being 2 places down from Hamlet.

You made a statement, that statement is 'life has no meaning', this is *by definition* a belief of yours. As in you must have, using some faculty of your mind, concluded that life has no meaning. It is a valid assertion to make, no doubt. But now I am asking you what observations you have made that lead to that conclusion, and conversely if had you observed the opposite of those observations would you believe the opposite?
I am simply trying to understand the journey taken from when you were born and knew nothing, to this moment where you exist and know that life has no meaning. Surely some or many logical observations lead you to reach your conclusion. Or do you acknowledge that your viewpoint is nothing more than unfounded dogma whereby you intuitively hold that it is true without examining the premises under which it is true?
Some have said to me that they have searched for meaning and found none, but the problem is that without a rigorously defined criteria for meaning they cannot demonstrate its absence.
Like I said my biggest issue with nihilism isn't the core conceit, it's the lack of intellectual rigour applied to the conclusions. Of course some could argue that in being a nihilist they do not believe in logic or proof since nothing has meaning, but this is circular logic and is a fundamentally incoherent way to operate. It is essentially saying that 'now that I am a nihilist I am a nihilist because I don't believe in anything that would disprove nihilism'.
So which are you? A dogmatic fatalist who simply asserts an unfalsifiable claim? Or someone who has actually examined life using specific criteria and found life to have no meaning? If you are the latter, then I would like to know your criteria and the conditions of falsifiability. I.e. in a hypothetical universe what observation would lead you to conclude life has a meaning?

Lol, even on those "specific" topics there are a vast amount of subpoints that can make an endless discussion and fuzz about it.
Not even 100 books would get you totally cover up on a single of those topics.
If you want to learn in such depth go to university, but i would rather prefer to have a general(superficial) knowledge on a vast amount of topics and explore them as much as i want instead of being a uber autist that can only tackle one and talk about that with other people just so he can flex on it. It seems less life consuming.
Do as your will desires.
