What a ride. Outside of DFW being a human thesaurus I really can't understand how anyone could dislike this book. The commentary on contemporary America is very poignant imo.

I honestly liked it. The Hal chapters were comfy and the AA/mentally ill ones relatable. There are some tedious bits but overall I found it to be a rather entertaining read. I like how shit doesn't make any sense at the beginning but over time everything just comes together.

Americans are the conclusion of literature, doesn't make sense to start with them

Asking somebody new to reading to start with the most technically profound, modern, intricate, dense, and cutting edge prose on the planet is like asking a baby to perform calculus

It isn't done, and for good reason

You should only try the Americans after you've completed the literatures they've conquered, particularly the English, Russian and German literatures. Only then will you have the intellectual preparation for unpacking the most complex and acclaimed thoughts on the planet

I didn't get half the plot points I read about online after I finished it. Am I retarded?
I normally don't mind non-resolution type endings, but a book this long should be satisfying on the first read
