Its a somewhat eccentric fantasy world told in an amusing way. The stories are funny because the characters are funny. The Color of Magic is the first book, but you can jump in at any point depending on what you feel like. See attached for the various arcs

I have read Prince of Thorns. It's ok but does it get any better in King and Empire of Thorns?

Also which series are heavy focused on intrigue and (geo)political aspect of the story/world? For example, in ASOIAF I absolutely enjoyed reading and trying to understamd what Littlefinger and Varys are up to.

Colour of Magic is the typical start point for most people.

The books get progressively more depressing, just give up hope for an even mildly hopeful ending and you're set. If you want more positive fantasy I wholeheartedly recommend Terry Pratchett.

>>Post books you read while growing up and tell us how you honestly felt about them at the time.
The Discworld books
>>Do they still hold up? Are there any YA books that do?
Yes.
>>Do you look back and cringe at some of the stuff that you liked?
Eragon
>>As always, tell us what you're currently reading.
Going through the later Tiffany Aching books, which I hadn't read before. Currently on the fourth and I'm enjoying them. But this book did take some darker detours. A 13 year old girl heavily beaten by her drunk father, terminating her pregnancy. Doesn't pull punches even though it was supposed to be for a younger audience.

Guards! Guards! or any other of the series.

Shades of Grey - Jasper Fforde: You know those mediocre YA series about oppressive dystopias based on peoples skin or eye color or some other bullshit? These books with boring edgy teenagers with an unwavering resolve to dismantle said improbable regime and blah blah blah... Hunger Gayms and Red Grinding and the like.
How'd you like an actually entertaining color dystopia book? One with an adult main character who just wants to get a job and maybe find a wife. And an actually interesting dystopian regime built not on an evil ruling class, but on simple blunt bureaucracy. Well this is it.
