I dwell in Possibility--
A fairer House than Prose--
More numerous of Windows--
Superior--for Doors--

Of Chambers as the Cedars--
Impregnable of Eye--
And for an Everlasting Roof
The Gambrels of the Sky--

Of Visitors--the fairest--
For Occupation--This--
The spreading wide my narrow Hands
To gather Paradise--

--Emily Dickinson, "I Dwell in Possibility"

/lit,

i've been lurking for a while, and i gotta say i've been pretty disappointed with the general quality of threads lately/the toxic atmosphere that those threads seem to invite. in an effort to change this, and before i give up on this board entirely, i wanted to start a series of threads that i hope will at least set the stage for interesting conversation. i hope to list a couple of quotes i found particularly interesting and open up the discussion to you all--thoughts, critiques, etc. please try to keep it interesting and civilized. to begin:

"The mind is the great slayer of the real"
--benjamin whorf, language, mind and reality

"Logic and ethics are fundamentally the same, they are no more than duty to oneself."
--Otto weininger, sex and character

any insightful remarks/impressions are greatly appreciated.
