Maybe. I'm more inclined towards thinking somewheres in this trilogy is though. Better ambiance imo if that makes sense.

It probably took me 10 books to realize that Jacques has about 4 narrative templates with a few outliers. I probably read all of them through Rackety Tam.

In hindsight, Redwall is mediocre, but not because of the stale plots; it's the shit pacing that really hurts it. The prose itself is forgettable.

Thankfully, some books aimed for younger audiences hold up well

read this. This is one of the best fantasy series I've seen.

If you're into fantasy "executed differently," this is awesome for you.

The Bartimaeus Trilogy.

I read the Amulet of Samakand a few years ago and really likes it, but sometime afterwards my mind filed it in the "Eragon" catagory. Just the other day I decided to start it again, and it's awesome!

[spoiler]Books are not stupid little videogames or whatever other nerdshit you guys argue about. YOU DON'T HAVE TO CHOOSE A SIDE! You can go from TKaMB to LoTR if you damn well please.

Well, this thread is for those who are in the mood for a little fantasy.
Yes, everything /lit/ says about them is true. They are often generic, childish, poorly written, etc...
Eragon is a great example of popular but shitty fantasy. However, there are others out there are are decent, even just mediocre.

let's discuss them.

I for one loved The Amulet of Samarkand.</spoiler>

What does /lit/ think of these books? Personally I loved them, especially how oftentimes the motives of the hero often weren't morally justifiable.

Discuss.

So, /lit/, I have a question for you guys. Do you guys ever read "young-adult" novels? I feel kind of strange looking at this from a more objective perspective than usual, but many of the books and series I enjoy (such as the Hungry City Chronicles, The Bartimaeus Trilogy, His Dark Materials) are supposedly aimed at "young adults" but reading between the lines I pick up some things that are not what you would call "kid-friendly". Does anyone else read books like these or pick up on stuff like this in other books aimed at younger age groups?

Pic related; it's an awesome series

Hey, /lit/ show me your YA novels. Your guilty pleasures, your nostalgia, whatever, I just wanna talk about them.

This has got to be one of my favorite series of books and I'm sad it doesn't get taken seriously under the YA label.

Bartimaeus trilogy.

I kind of hated Kitty and Nathaniel in book 2. But they got better by book 3 and I was sad to see it end. Bartimaeus was awesome all throughout.
