>''And this is how you should feel about it''

Are all books inherently political?

I am obsessed with the passage of time, entropy, decay, death, and the ephemerality of life. Who should I read, who shares my affinities in this regard?

>Is anyone here in the midst of writing an epic?
yes, me
I've wanted to write one for over 10 years or so now
>If so, what is the subject and the purpose behind it?
its a compilation of stories making up the mythos of an world very similar to ours but perennially in the mid-90s; it draws on folklore similar to Greek/Roman as well as Christian and Arthurian.
Obviously some of the stories read like ancient epics recommended on this board while other entries take on more of an urban fantasy feel whose "supernatural" elements have their origin in said epics
>purpose
There is none, just cool shit that I wanted to write as an exercise in storytelling without aping any one influence too hard.

Do you guys happen to know novels where the main character or another character learns to love his fellow men just as they are, possibly even to the point where he would be willing to sacrifice himself/herself for their sake? I guess I'm looking for novels with messiah-like characters who started out as callous and uncaring but grew as human beings eventually. I find the archetype of the messiah to be a beautiful one, but I have problems with feeling attached to others, and thus I also have a hard time feeling sympathy or kindness for them, especially if they hurt me in the past. I would like to learn what it feels like to care about my fellow men.
