The answer is that Marx provided a critique of ideology, derived from his materialist theory of history. Pomos adopted the ideological critique aspect of this, but without adopting the teleological historical narrative ending in communism.

Postmodernism was significantly influenced by marxism, but they are fundamentally incompatible. This isn't realised by most pomos though, because they're full of shit.
