Freedom of Speech is a false ideal.

It was championed by the revolutionaries preceding the 1789 Revolution, as the Printing Press was their prefered method of spreading revolutionary, anti-monarchy, anti-religion propaganda.

As an ideal Freedom of Speech is this beautiful notion that everybody ought to have the right to speak for himself, but in practice Freedom of Speech means the tyranny of the Press and the oligarchs who own the Press. Now, while the Church did censor materials it deemed harmful at least the Church recognized that it had a duty to promote the well-being of the faithful. The oligarchs that own the Press and their journalist minions recognize no duty other than money making, and they effectively censor what they don't like by heaping it with criticism and detraction, and by inundating the public with meaningless information in order to distract from real issues. Certain issues are just simply not reported on. The Media has such a grip over people's minds that people barely have Freedom of Thought, which makes Freedom of Speech useless as they are reduced to parrots repeating the opinions of the journalists.

There was "Freedom of Speech" before, it's just that the person who had the wrong idea was recognized as playing Devil's Advocate. But in our liberal societies a person that wants to play Devil's Advocate is battered with buzzwords and slogans, because there is a great a fear of heresy now as there ever was. The quality of conversation in the West has drastically declined since the journalists took over as the leaders of conversation.

In conclusion, Freedom of Speech is an empty slogan that has been used by the oligarchs of the New World to depose the aristocracy and religion of the Old World.
