Is this the only version of Malcolm X's autobiography? I heard this was heavily altered to remove the anti-Jewish views that Malcolm X had. Is there an uncensored version?

Read this book if you haven't. Imagine it as a sort of template.

I loved this book. Malcolm and Haley do a great job of putting you in the time period, and showing how the world he grew up in could cultivate such a violently radical viewpoint. Obviously it is easy to disagree with his conclusions, and certainly his methods of dealing with them, but his arguments for black nationalism are still compelling. The book was written in a stream of consciousness style as recited, so Malcolm's viewpoints change as the book goes along. The later chapters after he returns from the Hajj and begins to embrace all races and hopes for a peace he knows he won't live to see are incredible. Its obviously extremely one-sided and he doesn't go into things he couldn't in that day and age such as his homosexuality(though it is hinted at) but I think that makes it all the better, as it forces the reader to consider their own opinions on each subject he covers. I truly think this is one of the best autos written and would soundly recommend it to everyone, even those who have a strong bias against Malcolm's views. It doesn't challenge the non-black reader to change their views, though it does encourage the black readers to reevaluate their own experiences.

I had it on my "Want to Read" shelf for many months and never got to it. Wow, I have been missing some good writing and storytelling. Malcom lived, in 17 years, more than most people do in their entire lives.

It sells an insane number of copies. Is it particularly well written or something?

Am I the only one that hates this book? well, atleast the hypocrisy and the ignorance Malcolm is displaying. Also even abit racist, calling atleast white people "The white devil" every two sentences.
