>we had to write these "personal narratives" in grade school
>people wrote about major trips/vacations, sports events, etc.
>I just wrote about buying milk, talking to people, etc. in a really surrealistic way, taking note of everything
>have to read them to class
>get laughs
>this feels good

I was gonzo before I knew what gonzo was.

I went recession-mode with my thinking and thought, "Well, at least there's an opportunity to get paid in journalism as opposed to english" when I applied to university. I almost fully regret it now, but I'm in too deep. The best I can hope for is a minor in Classics -and thus, all of my degrees will be worthless.

Journalism is going in an undesirable (at least for me) place, going hyper-local, incorporating blogs, etc. Plus, the instances of plagerism/factual inacurracy/outright lying has gone up, and it's not without its benefits. The Knight Foundation paid Jonah Lehrer $20k for him to stand up in front of everyone and claim he made shit up because he was just too smart.
